How do you get into extreme skiing? ?
I ski, and I am fairly good at it, but I want to be able to do jumps and grind and everything… any suggestions? I live close to some mountains in Eastern U.S, but not like the anything I see people do such as in the Warren Miller movies…
Alright so eastern mountains. Sugarbush, Killington, Bolton Valley, Mad River, Jay Peak, etc… thats where mostly ski. they are great mountains to get wicked nasty good. so once you have mastered downhill skiing (black diamonds or better), you should learn to ski backwards. it is just as easy as normal skiing but you just bend you legs in the opposite direction. Learning backwards will help you learn fakies and rail spins. as for rails, get comfortable at doing 2-3 feet rails. then for longer ones, come in on the rail at a 45˚ angle. then center you weight and go big! for jumps start with getting comfortable with 2-4 feet of air then work up to 10-15 feet of air, then eventually 20 feet. Start adding in 360’s when you are ready. The KEY thing to remember is wherever you head is pointed, your body will follow. Then once you get these start adding in indies, fakies, grabs, helis and more. It is all what you can do, so if you want to learn it dont let your brain get to you. a few bruises is definitely worth it to be a freestyle skier. Good Luck
